Principle Dan Baillargeon

Principal Dan Baillargeon

Mr. Baillargeon is in his 8th year as principal of St. Louis School and has been teaching for over 10 years both in and out of the United States. He is a graduate of the University of Connecticut with a B.A. in music, has his M.Ed. from Sul Ross State University in school administration, and is currently working toward his Ph.D. at The Catholic University of America in Catholic educational leadership and policy studies. When not at the school, he is home with his loving wife and six beautiful children. Also, on the side and when called upon, he plays the guitar and runs Confirmation retreats with his wife to help young people grow in their love of Christ. He has a genuine love for children and understands his vocation as principal as an extension of Christ’s work for His Church.

Assistant Principal Kathleen McNutt

Mrs. McNutt is a proud alum of St. Louis School which she attended from 3rd through 8th grades.  She graduated Magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree from James Madison University, where she majored in Early Childhood Education and minored in Developmental Reading.  She has maintained her Virginia state teaching license for the past 23 years, and she is certified to teach preschool through grade 6.  Kathleen has taught in public and private schools in Northern Virginia, and she started teaching at St. Louis School in 2009.  In addition to her teaching, she has worked for the The New Teacher Project, screening applicants for their inner city teacher grant programs, and she worked as a legal assistant organizing documents and doing legal research for a government contracts law firm in Washington, D.C.  Kathleen headed up the St. Louis Preschool Project in 2011-2012, overseeing the construction and educational process, and she has been the Director since its opening.  She is currently working to complete her Master's degree in Educational Supervision and Administration from Marymount University.  When she is not at school, she is happily on the run with her husband, Geoff, and their 5 children, who are current students and graduates of St. Louis School.

Mrs. English has served St. Louis School for 28 years.  This Kindergarten teacher has a degree in education and enjoys spending time reading and shopping.  She enjoys the opportunity to practice the Catholic faith daily through prayers, Mass, religious instruction, etc.

Mrs. Ledbetter

This is Mrs. Ledbetter’s 4th year at St. Louis.  She holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering for Norwich University, the Military College of Vermont. She was on active duty in the United States Coast Guard for 11 years and was later able to stay at home with her children for several years.   She enjoys teaching at St. Louis because of the Christ-centered education that it offers.  Her hobbies include reading, gardening, scrapbooking, and cross-stitching.

Mrs. Ferguson

Mrs. Ferguson is a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  After graduating from Villanova University with a degree in Business Administration, she moved to Maryland to attend graduate school at Trinity University in Washington, D.C.  It was there that she earned a Master of Arts degree in Teaching.  Mrs. Ferguson taught second grade at a Catholic school in the Archdiocese of Washington before taking time away from the classroom.  She is very happy to be teaching again, especially at St. Louis, where her four children are current students.  Mrs. Ferguson loves praying with her students daily and teaching them about Jesus.

Mrs. Faherty

Mrs. Faherty has been deeply involved at St. Louis School for more than 35 years.  First, as a parent of her 5 children and as PTO officer, and for the last 27 years as a member of the faculty.  For 10 of those years she taught reading and writing to Kinders, First and Second graders.  Since 1996 she has loved teaching the Kinders in K-10, instilling in them a love of learning and of their Faith.  For many years she coordinated Social Justice projects for the school and was the School Liason on the Parish Social Justice Committee.  Outside of school, her main focus is her family, especially her 9 grandchildren.  You might also find her on a golf course, in a museum, or traveling with her husband.

Mrs. Cotnoir

Mrs. Cotnoir is happy to be in the K-10 classroom with Mrs. Ferguson and Mrs. Faherty.  She has a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism from Syracuse University and a Master’s in School Counseling from the University of Southern Maine.  Her three children attend St. Louis School and are in 7th, 5th and 2nd grades this year.  This is the family’s 8th year as part of the St. Louis Catholic School Community and they couldn’t be happier with the Catholic Education they are receiving.    Mrs. Cotnoir enjoys reading, shopping (especially with a coupon), and spending time doing just about anything with her family.

This is Miss Baker's second year at St. Louis Catholic School as a 1st grade teacher.  She has a degree in Psychology with an elementary education minor from Guilford College in North Carolina.  She enjoys every opportunity to share the magic of faith with her students.

Miss Paulus

Miss Paulus graduated from Fairfield University in January 2012 with a major in English and minor in Education. She graduated with a Master’s in Elementary Education in August 2013 and student taught/ interned in kindergarten and third grade in Bridgeport, CT for the 2012-2013 school year. She also played Division I basketball at Fairfield University from 2008-2012. Miss Paulus feel so happy and blessed to be a part of the strong faith community at St. Louis!

Mrs. Cucinotta

Mrs. Cucinotta grew up in Washington State, but has lived all over the country since marrying a US Marine. This summer she moved from Southern California to Alexandria. She received her B.A. in Elementary Education from Washington State University. She is blessed with being a mother to four children. During her free time, she enjoys running, playing outdoors with her family and going to soccer and baseball games. She is a huge fan of LA Galaxy Soccer!

Mrs. Vasquez

This is Mrs. Vasquez’s 2nd year as a 2nd grade teacher at St. Louis.  She has a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education from Texas A&M University and is working towards a Master’s in Reading Specialization.

When asked why she likes working in Catholic schools, she commented, “I like the opportunity to grow in my faith as I teach, as well as become an example for the students.  I feel blessed to be teaching at St. Louis school.”  Two of her hobbies are reading and taking long walks with her family along the Potomac River and in Old Town.

Mrs. Snyder

Mrs. Snyder is pleased to have joined the St. Louis faculty this year after moving to Virginia from Hawaii as part of a military family. Her credentials includea master of arts in teaching specializing in elementary and gifted education from the University of Southern California, a master of public administration from the University of Arizona, and a bachelor arts in government from the University of Virginia. She is a member of the Phi Delta Kappa professional educators association, the National Association for Gifted Children, and the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. She also holds active teaching license from the state of Hawaii and anticipates a certificate from the Virginia Catholic Education Association.

Mrs. Snyder notes that it is truly a blessing to be teaching in a supportive, Catholic environment where she can nurture both the mind and spirit of her fabulous fourth graders.

Mrs. Saunders

4th grade teacher Mrs. Saunders has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Nevada Las Vegas, a Master’s Degree from American University, and teacher certification from Drexel University to gain her VCEA certification.  This is her fourth year at St. Louis.  As she says, “I love being able to teach and share my faith. I'm also very blessed to be able to spend time every day doing something I love.  Teaching in a Catholic school is more than a job, it is a calling.”

Miss Roddy

Miss Roddy is in her ninth year of teaching and her seventh year teaching at St. Louis.  Her degrees include a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education and English Literature, with a minor in French, from Roger Williams University in Rhode Island and a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in reading from George Mason University in Virginia. She is certified to teach elementary grades in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the state of Connecticut. She maintains a reading specialist endorsement grades K-12 in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Mrs. Leslie has taught 5th grade at St. Louis School for 4 years.  She holds a Master’s in Special Education from George Mason University.  She loves teaching and learning with her students, as well as exploring her faith with them.

Mrs. Cahill

Mrs. Cahill has been teaching at St. Louis for 6 years. This is her 4th year in the Middle School teaching 6 th grade Religion and 7 th and 8 th Grade Social Studies. Mrs. Cahill has a B.A. in History from Niagara University and a M.A. in Russian History from the State University of New York at Buffalo. She has completed her education requirements for certification in secondary education, concentration in Social Studies, at Marymount University. She has an Advanced Catechist certificate for teaching Religion.She is certified to teach by the Virginia Catholic Educators Association and is waiting state certification from Virginia.

Ms. Orr

Ms. Orr teaches 6th Grade Science, and 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Math (Honors Algebra and Geometry. She holds a Master in Biomedical Engineering, and has taken graduate education courses from the University of Virginia.

Born in the Philippines, Mrs. Blochberger was raised in Tempe, Arizona, and received a Bachelor’s in English from Arizona State University.  She completed teacher certification courses at Shenandoah University, Trinity University, and the University of Virginia and holds VCEA certification. Mrs. Blochberger has over 13 years teaching experience and currently teaches middle school English.  

Mrs. Blochberger finds it “extremely gratifying to teach English grammar in a faith-based environment surrounded by the Holy Spirit.

Mrs. Miller

2013-14 is Mrs. Miller’s fourteenth year at St. Louis School.  She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Zoology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and an M.S. is Secondary Education from Old Dominion University.  She holds a post-graduate professional license from the Commonwealth of Virginia with endorsements in Biology and middle school math, and has Catechist certification at the advanced level.  She teaches Religion, Pre-Algebra, 8 grade Physical Science, and 7th grade Life Science.  She enjoys prayer and worship with the St. Louis community.

Her favorite saints are St. Teresa of Avila and St. Peter the Apostle.  Her favorite color is red—the color of the martyrs and the Holy Spirit.

Mrs. Czapiewski has been at St. Louis for 21 years.  This middle school literature teacher received her Bachelor’s in Elementary Education from Virginia Tech and has certification through the Commonwealth of Virginia.  She enjoys working with the other staff members and all the funny things her students say.

Miss Valen is in her third year as computer teacher at St. Louis and 8th year of teaching.  Her degrees include a Bachelor’s in English and Sacred Theology, with a minor in Biology, and a certificate in Catholic Integrated Core Curriculum from St. Mary’s College in Orchard Lake, MI; as well as a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Great Falls in Great Falls, MT.  She is certified to teach in the Commonwealth of Virginia, Iowa, Montana, and under the Interstate Compact Agreement.

Miss Valen says, “I feel blessed to be a part of the mission of Catholic Education as we work towards the education of the whole person—body and soul—and hope that by living the vocation God has called me to, I am able to help my students find their vocations in life.”

Luke Delaney was born and raised in Alexandria, VA. He attended St. Louis Catholic School from Kindergarten through 8th grade and went on to graduate from Bishop Ireton High School.  He earned his Bachelor's Degree from James Madison University with a major in Sociology and a minor in Special Education.  He loves playing sports and working with kids.  On his time off, he enjoys spending time with his family and fishing at their home on the Shenandoah River.

Library
Mrs. Lader

Mrs. Lader has served as the librarian at St. Louis School for 15 years, and was previously a librarian at St. Thomas More school.  She is a native of central New York State.  She holds an M.A. in Special Education as well as a Master of Library Science from the University of Maryland.  She taught children with severe/multiple handicaps for 21 years before returning to school for her library degree. 

Mrs. Lader “feels the presence of God here at St. Louis in my colleagues and my students.”  In addition to loving learning and books, she is an avid railroad and aviation fan.  She also likes to make beaded jewelry.

Mr. Granados teaches Español, (Castellano). Mr. Granados holds a degree in Industrial Engineering, as well as VCEA certification.  This is his 3rd year as Spanish teacher at St. Louis.  Outside of school, he enjoys 70’s music and playing the guitar.

Mrs. Mitchell

Mrs. Mitchell is in her first year as school nurse as St. Louis. Her degrees include an Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Florida State College at Jacksonville and a Bachelor’s Degree from Jacksonville University.  She has experience in Intensive Care Units, Emergency Departments and telephonic triage before coming to St Louis.  She and her husband Billy have two children, Claire in 2nd grade & TJ in Kindergarten. The Mitchell family recently relocated to Northern Virginia from Jacksonville NC due to Mr. Mitchell’s active duty service in the US Coast Guard.

Mrs. Mitchell says, “I feel blessed to care for our children while they are pursuing their Catholic Education.  God has placed me in a position to truly help care for them body and soul here at St. Louis.  I receive such joy from the children every day and I am blessed that I can offer them comfort when they don’t feel well.”

Mrs. Melka has taught at  St. Louis School for 28 years.  During that time she has taught first grade, second grade, and resource. Just out of college, she taught preschool and kindergarten for three years each, for a total of 34 years teaching experience.  She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education from the, as well as, VCEA Certification.  She loves the way the staff, here at St. Louis, prays for and cares about each other and their students.  Mrs. Melka enjoys spending time with family, reading, animals, and the beach.

Szemborski

Mrs. Szemborski was born in Germany but grew up in California. She graduated from the University of San Francisco with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and then married Stan, a Naval officer.  They spent 34 years as a Navy couple in the Submarine Force and lived from Hawaii to Scotland and many ports in between.  She worked at St. Louis School as a K and 1st grade assistant from 1995-2003 and now has served as an attendance monitor since 2008.

This is Mrs. Madden’s  4th year working in the front office.  Her favorite part of her job is helping the families of St. Louis Catholic School.

Prior to accepting this position in the front office, Mrs. Madden volunteered as a room parent, served as the PTO treasurer and was a substitute teacher.  She has two children at St. Louis School:  Clare who is in 7th grade and Jimmy who is in 4th grade.  Her oldest child, Emily, graduated from St. Louis last year.

Mrs. Thomas has been part of the St. Louis community for several years—as a student, parent, volunteer, and cafeteria manager.  She enjoys time at the beach with her family and taking zumba classes.
